After tooth loss, many patients’ primary concerns are costs related to their replacement teeth. Our oral surgeon offers affordable dentures that are secured to dental implants. Implant-supported dentures produce beautiful, complete smiles so that our patients can regain their confidence without sacrificing comfort or functionality.
How Implant-Supported Dentures Work
Implant-supported dentures effectively restore the smiles of edentulous patients. They promote comfortable oral function and a lifelike appearance. They’re also very durable.
One popular option for affordable dentures is called “All-on-4″ or “same day dentures”. This tooth replacement method involves anchoring an entire arch of prosthetic teeth (a denture) to four dental implants. Embedded into the jaw, dental implants essentially function like the roots of missing teeth. With All-on-4, each implant is placed in a manner that disperses weight evenly throughout the jaw, which increases comfort and stability.
Utilizing dental implants can also be more affordable long-term because of their durable nature. These types of dentures require fewer repairs and replacement than conventional dentures.
All-on-4 replacement teeth are considered low maintenance. Patients will clean their prosthetics with routine brushing. Some enjoy using water irrigators to keep the gums free of debris.
Why Replacing Lost Teeth is Important
Tooth loss affects far more than just a person’s appearance. It can have long-lasting effects on emotional and physical health. Without replacement teeth, eating a balanced diet with adequate nutrition is incredibly difficult. In fact, many edentulous patients suffer from malnutrition as a result of tooth loss and/or ill-fitting prosthetics.
Bone atrophy is another issue that accompanies tooth loss. The roots of teeth keep bone active. When they’re lost, the body will resorb bone in the jaw. Over time, bone loss will cause premature aging by creating a “sunken in” appearance. Losing teeth also contributes to mental health concerns such as depression and social anxiety.
Our practice provides implant-supported dentures including All-on-4. If you’re evaluating your tooth replacement options, we encourage you to schedule a tooth replacement consultation with our caring oral surgeon.
